As you know, CM4all is a software company with its headquarters and roots in Cologne, Germany - the city known as the stronghold of Carnival in Europe. As a native Cologne company, we of course celebrated “Karneval in Kölle” extensively this year. It was great to see some of our partners join us for the traditional Rose Monday (“Rosenmontag”) parade. We celebrated at a prime stand in the middle of it all close to Cologne’s ancient cathedral and conveniently adjacent to a traditional brewery.
The parade consisted of 12,000 parade participants, 114 floats, 500 horses, and 82 music groups progressing through the beautiful city of Cologne. The course was spread over seven kilometers, and the parade lasted more than five hours. In addition, 300 tons of candy and 300,000 flowers were thrown to onlookers, and the parade was enjoyed by more than one million Carnival fans on the streets of Cologne.
As you can see, we had a blast and are already looking forward to next year’s “fifth season” in Cologne. According to tradition, Carnival season will kick off at 11:11 on the 11th day of the 11th month (November) in 2015 and will culminate in the big Rose Monday parade on February 8, 2016.
Thanks again to everybody who made the trip from abroad and joined in! We are looking forward to seeing you all back here again soon. To anyone who has never experienced this event: Make sure you make it to Cologne for Carnival someday – it’s great fun!
